INGLESIDE — Lactalis Canada’s Ingleside plant currently has about 13 employees out after testing positive for COVID-19.
Eastern Ontario Medical Officer of Health Dr. Paul Roumeliotis confirmed the outbreak in a Nov. 29 media briefing on YouTube. Whether employees brought the sickness into the plant or picked it up at their workplace remains under investigation, though transmission is believed to have occurred both ways, the doctor said when questioned by the Morrisburg Leader.
“We’re trying to find the source, but it happened [with] significant transmission within the facility. We’ve tested everybody. We’re following up. We’re in there, with infection control measures,” Roumeliotis said.
He added most of the cases involve unvaccinated individuals, “although some were vaccinated, some breakthroughs. We’re looking at that.”
Approximately 400 people work at the Ingleside cheese plant.
