HALDIMAND COUNTY — Provincial animal welfare authorities are investigating the discovery of five dead calves and several other livestock animals in distress at a Haldimand County property.
Local OPP officers uncovered the situation Aug. 10 when they responded to a landlord tenant dispute at the address shortly after 6:50 p.m. In addition to the dead animals, police say they found “in critical condition” several other calves and pigs, a sheep and chickens. A veterinarian called to the scene had to euthanize a number of them.
Animal Welfare Services attended the location to remove the livestock, and that entity has taken over the investigation.
The OPP asks anyone who witnesses or knows of an act of cruelty to animals to please call 1-888-310-1122.
