The controversial South Nation Rise Wind Farm is expected to be fully operational this month. But not before a faulty blade had to be replaced. Above, a truck pulling a new blade on May 12 heads to one of the 29 turbines surrounding the village of Crysler. A wind turbine is so tall that from the ground to the tip of one blade at its vertical peak is two football field lengths. The technical glitch included the slow transport from the Port of Johnstown and along Hwy 416 past kemptville and into farm country. The spectacle generated a lot of Twitter blow-back, including this: “Perfect. Not even fully functional & needing replacements.” Tweeted Dave Humpartzian: “I watched it leave the yard… crazy how big they are!” (Michael Houston photo)
