Tuesday Jan. 4 was supposed to be the first day back at school until the province decided to lock down again. But at Yann Bossel’s South Mountain dairy farm, the first day of lockdown offered its own unique schooling as his children watched a hawk snag a pigeon in mid-air and spend the next 10 minutes killing it before dining. Children are Annika, 5, Luke, 7 and Jules, 11. (Allison Bossel photos/video)

Yann Bossel also photographed the same hawk at work Dec. 23, when it swept in to catch a rat in his bunk silo. Bossel was moving feed with a front-end loader, causing the rat to scurry out and into the talons of the bird that swooped in for the catch.
