Last days — In this 1956 photo Doug Jarvis poses in the Jarvis and Shaver general store in the village of Aultsville. These were the last days of the village store and the entire village. Land along the St. Lawrence River, near Cornwall, was flooded in 1958 to allow large ships to reach Detroit and as far west as Minnesota. In the few years leading up to the planned flood, houses, businesses and churches from 12 area villages were moved inland. (Stormont,Dundas and Glengarry Historical Society photo)
