ARMSTRONG TOWNSHIP — An eight-year-old child died April 27 after falling into a farm wagon in Armstrong Township, north of New Liskeard, according to the Temiskaming OPP.
The child was transported to hospital by ambulance and pronounced dead a short time later. An OPP Crime Unit investigation continues with the assistance of the Office of the Chief Coroner – Ontario Forensic Pathology Service (OCC-FPS), and a post-mortem examination is scheduled to take place at a later date.
The deceased is identified on a gofundme page as Caleb Gravel by family friend Bonnie Carr — of nearby Englehart — on behalf of Melina Gravel.
“I’m raising money for the Gravel/Varcoe family who tragically lost her 8 yr old son today in a farming accident,” reports Carr on the page.
Losing a child “is unimaginable to begin with along with unexpected expenses. I would like to help her with these costs. Caleb was a free spirit who will be missed by many, especially his sister Gina. Please note that Melina will be managing all donations so Roxanne and Joe can honor Caleb and allow him to rest with dad.”
Police responded to the involved residence on Gauthier Rd., north of New Liskeard, shortly after 5:30 p.m. The OPP Crime Unit, the North East Region Forensic Identification Service (FIS), the Armstrong Township Fire Department and paramedics also arrived at the address.
Temiskaming OPP advise that any person with information regarding this incident should immediately contact the OPP at 1-888-310-1122 or their nearest police authority.
Those wishing anonymity may call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222- 8477 (TIPS) and may be eligible for a cash reward of up to $2,000.
Meanwhile, the gofundme effort has more than doubled its original $5,000 goal — with $10,575 raised by Thursday morning, April 30.
