A lot more farmers replanted soybeans this year. Sean Payne (above), of Payne Bros. Farms, at Iona Station in West Elgin, replants soybeans on June 19. In any year, Ontario farmers replant between 20,000 to 100,000 acres of soybeans. “This year it will be 100,000-plus,” said OMAFRA soybean specialist Horst Bohner. Replanting can come with compromised yields. Based on 22 trials from 2010 to 2012, an OMAFRA study found that soybeans planted from May 21 to June 5 saw an 8% decline in yield compared to soybeans planted from April 15 to May 5.
