TORONTO Lisa Thompson, Minister of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs issued the following statement to commemorate Ontario Agriculture Week.
This Ontario Agriculture Week is a time to celebrate the contributions of so many across our agri-food sector. I want to say thank you for making possible all the Good things that Grow in Ontario.
From our farmers to our chefs and to everyone in between I thank you for your unwavering dedication to bringing high quality food to our kitchen tables. Your resilience and commitment to doing the best you can to bring food to Ontarians is celebrated and appreciated.
As part of recognizing Ontario Agriculture Week, I am holding a number of focused discussions with sector representatives from across the agri-food industry focused on important topics such as trade and export, women in agriculture, innovation, jobs and training, growing the sector and much more. I look forward to hearing directly from those in our provinces agriculture communities about ways our government can work with together to create opportunities that ensure rural Ontario and agriculture businesses are competitive at home and abroad. I want to hear about ways that rural economies, of which agriculture is key, can thrive and grow.
Through it all, and in the midst of this pandemic, Ontario’s agri-food sector continues to support and strengthen our overall provincial economy. This Ontario Agriculture Week and everyday, I am proud of the contributions of Ontario’s agri-food sector. I look forward to continuing to work with you to ensure our sector is one of the strongest and most diverse in the world.
