ONTARIO — Getting good quality sleep is an important part of farm safety. That’s one of the messages around the upcoming annual Canadian Agricultural Safety Week, March 12-18.
The stresses of farming “combined with the long hours and physical labour involved … can put a lot of strain on farmers. And that can lead to farmers ignoring their own well-being. But it’s important to remember that farm safety depends on many factors, including mental well-being. That includes ensuring you get enough good quality sleep to farm effectively and safely,” says the public service announcement from the Canadian Agricultural Safety Association, long-time spearhead of the annual awareness-raising week.
In 2023, organizers are focusing on such practical advice while highlighting the essential role of safety in the viability of farm operations. Other concise messages point to the return on investment advantage of farm safety practices, and the need to be committed to farm safety every day.
This year’s theme is “Safety is Our Promise,” in addition to Canadian Agricultural Safety Week’s existing 3-year slogan, “Your Farm, Your Family, Your Success.”
Farmers and farm communities are encouraged to show how they commit to #FarmSafetyEveryday on social media, during the special week.
