There are 350 farmers — owing an average of $7,142 — that are still holding out on paying Agricorp over unpaid loans and processing errors.
Three years ago, Agricorp sent letters to thousands of Ontario farmers saying the farmers owed money from loans or miscalculations on grants or support programs dating back to 2001. In October 2014, there were about 900 farmers who needed to repay $8.9 million.
Agricorp customer communications manager Stephanie Charest said 3,500 farmers have repaid or have started to repay $23.4 million. About 350 people — owing a total of $2.5 million — have not repaid anything and interest is accumulating, she said.
