MADISON, WISCONSIN – Nadia Uhr, 17, took a Jersey heifer to near the top of her age division in the Youth Showmanship Contest at last month’s World Dairy Expo in Madison, Wisconsin.
Though she hails from Knonaudale Farms, a Holstein farm in Crysler, Ontario, Uhr has been finding recent success in the ring with Rapid Bay Tequila in the Dark, a Jersey owned by Velthuis Farms in Osgoode.
The duo’s highest-profile achievement came Oct. 2 when Uhr placed second in the senior division (ages 17 to 21) at the showmanship contest in Madison.
Uhr was second only to a competitor from Pennsylvania in her age group and led a strong showing by six Ontarians who placed in the top 10 of the senior division. Entrants from Western Ontario finished third, seventh and eighth. Courtney Orser,of Syndenham, was ninth.
The contest drew 468 competitors across all three age divisions.
Prior to their foray across the border, Uhr and Tequila captured Overall Grand Champion honours during the EastGen Showcase in Spencerville.
